Originally from East Kilbride in Glasgow, Adam came to Birmingham to study at Birmingham Conservatoire. He still works frequently in Scotland with the acclaimed Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra.
His playing is openly expressive, stretching from either end of his instrument's range to points of emotional climax. As well being influenced by the complex and virtuosic music of artists such as David Binney, Dick Oates and Chris Potter, Adam is also an accomplished free improviser as can be heard on his recording Exploration of self.
Adam plays extensively in Birmingham with his own trio and is the 'A' of quartet R.A.D.J, who have been showcased at Symphony Hall’s Rush Hour Blues. He has played in Ben Bryden’s Sextet, John Randal’s electric groups and Aaron Diaz’s Zappajazz.
He is also involved with many Conservatoire ensembles and recently rose to the challenge of performing the music of Lennie Tristano in an evening attributed to the great pianist.
