The Birmingham Improvisers Orchestra is one of the cities most exciting new ensembles. It draws on the wealth of musical talent and experience that exists in Birmingham today and features a diverse array of musical styles and abilities, musicians who are concerned with improvisation regardless of their particular chosen area of musical activity.
The Birmingham Improvisers Orchestra is a large ensemble dedicated to exploring the many different sound worlds of free improvisation. With over twenty talented and innovative members the possibilities stretch as far the imagination. Each member brings his own unique sound and personality to each performance making every one a new and exciting experience. BIO is a new project founded and coordinated by Mike Hurley curator of the Fizzle free improvisation night at the Lamp Tavern, Birmingham.
Although at the heart of its activities is improvisation it will also seek to encourage composition initially at least in the form of BIO-Activities provided by group members and a pool of preexisting classics.
