Birmingham Conservatoire is an international conservatoire, the only U.K. music college affiliated with a university, being a faculty of Birmingham City University (formerly the University of Central England). The college has two quality performance spaces, the main Adrian Boult Hall auditorium and the smaller Recital Hall and its Library owns around 95,000 individual scores and parts and 10,000 sound recordings.

Amongst the 500 students studying on solo performance, composition, recording and research programmes the Conservatoire’s celebrated jazz course has around 60 aspiring jazz musicians studying on it. Running since 2000 the course has aided the recent development of the scene, attracting 20 young jazz musicians a year to the city.

The Conservatoire shares special relationships with artists-in-residence Mike Gibs, who frequently works with the college's Jazz Orchestra and Dave Holland, who visits twice annually.

Tutors include Hans Koller, Liam Noble, Jean Toussaint, Julian Seigel, Phil Robson, Dave Cliff, Mark Hodgson, Arnie Somogyi, Fred Baker, Tony Levin, Andrew Bain, Gerard Presencer and Richard Isles amongst others and perform regularly at jazz nights throughout Birmingham.

The course has produced some of the nation’s finest young talent; Pianists Alcyona Mick and Dan Nicholls, Trumpeter and Bassist Percy Pursglove, Tenor player Mark Hanslip and Bassist Aidan O’Donnell all studied on the jazz course.

The building is based in the heart of the city centre only a few minutes walk from the CBSO Centre, Symphony Hall, Town Hall and New Street Station.
