At the forefront of the nineties acid jazz scene Chris Bowden released his Time Capsule album in 1996 to immense critical acclaim. He also worked with 4Hero, creating a jazz-soul take on drum & bass on their 1998 album 2 Pages. Chris collaborated on their Hero single playing sax and provided string arrangements. He also contributed arrangements and played alongside many artists including The K-Creative, Basement Jaxx and The Herbaliser live band. It was with The Herbaliser that Chris first worked with Ninja Tune and soon began working on original material for the label.

Chris’s original work reflects his talent for arrangement and conception. 2002’s Slightly Askew features a twenty-piece free jazz big band, string quartet. drifts between elements of drum’n’bass and straight-ahead swing and raucous free blowing. Chris also completed a recent dectet project commissioned by Birmingham Jazz, premiered at the CBSO Centre featuring Neil Yates on Trumpet.

His current trio with Ben Markland on Bass and Neil Bullock on Drums have appeared at Cobweb Collective nights in the Coffee Lounge and the Queens Arms Pub, as well as headlining the very first Cobweb night at the Yardbird Jazz Club.
