Birmingham University Jazz And Blues Society (or JaBSoc) was formed in September 2005 by Steve Moult and James Affleck to unite student bands and live music enthusiasts within the university. JaBSoc is now run by an official committee, is sponsored by KPMG and has become a platform for many society-formed bands, boasting over 200 members as well as a huge fan base.

JaBSoc events at the university’s Guild of Students have a large following and a growing reputation as some of the best student nights around. Jam sessions are held regularly in the Guild of Students bar, larger concerts held in the main auditorium and T.C’s pub in Selly Oak. Acts that have appeared on JaBSoc’s billings include Sugarbeats, John Randall’s Electric Quintet, Aaron Diaz's Zappajazz, the Andy Bunting Trio and Backbeat.
