Drummer John Randall is a Conservatoire graduate originally hailing from Malden, Essex. John was a member of Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra, coached by british altoist Martin Hathaway. He also schooled with Empirical bassist Tom Farmer whom he continues to work with.
John leads his own Electric Quintet, a combination of woodwind, synth keyboards, electric bass and heavy drum grooves. His music is cinematic and explorative with lilting melodies, shifting time signatures and driving pulses. Signed to Clark Tracey’s TENTOTEN label after Clark saw a performance at the Conservatoire in the summer of 2007, they are currently working towards an album of original music.
The band recently went down a storm at the Bash Bar with material specially written for guest Phil Robson of the Partisans, the first in what promises to become a series of gigs in the intimate cellar venue. As well as his own projects John is a highly in demand drummer and plays in Ben Bryden’s sextet and the Andy Bunting Trio.
John is currently based back in essex and plans to moved to London in the late year.
