The Live Box ia a weekley performance arts event that takes place in Birmingham every Sunday evening. This platform embraces jazz, live music, hip hop and dance - offering both established and emerging artists oppertunities to develop and perform work, as well as hosting well respected international artists. Guests have included Wynton Marsalis, Julie Dexter, Eska Mtungwazi, Femi Temowo, Ty, Jean Toussaint and many more. The Live Box also hosted the highly succesful launch of cobwebcollective.com and welcomed Simon Spreyer's quartet and Aaron Diaz's Zappajazz onto the bill.
Nights take place in the Andy Hamilton suite, seating several hundred facing a tall, roomy stage. Live Box events are often hosted by Birmingham native Soweto Kinch and frequently showcases local talent in their open jam sessions and M.C battles.
Founded and run by Nu Centuary Arts and its directors Don and Soweto Kinch, the organisation is dedicated to the development and promotion of performing arts in the African-Caribbean community and encompasses educational workshops, youth theatre, the 'Wired Up' magazine publication and group trips as far afield as South Africa and the States. Its commitment to alternative forms of black expression has established an international reputation in producing ground breaking and influential work of a global standard.
