Sam's quartet began as a trio in October 2007 at the Birmingham Conservatoire and with the addition of Jimmy Brewer on guitar the band is now preparing to record an album of original music for release in early 2009.

Drawing influence on Vietnamese trumpeter Cuong Vu and folk/jazz pioneer Neil Yates, Sam uses electronic loops and effects, intertwining in his arrangements and improvisations alongside the bass guitar of Tom Sinnet and Jim Bashford's drumming.
