Tony has worked at the highest level since the mid 60’s and continues to play and tour the world. He first came into prominence playing alongside legendary saxophonists Tubby Hayes and Joe Harriot, going on to work with the likes of Humphrey Littleton, Joe Henderson, Gary Burton, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Ronnie Scott, Johnny Griffin, Hank Mobley, John Taylor, Evan Parker, Ellery Eskelin, Kenny Wheeler, Keith Tippet, Paul Dunmall and Paul Rogers.

Tony run's TL’s Jazz Club, a bi-monthly jazz night in Moseley at the Patrick Kavanagh pub. The night showcases the best in national artists and many Conservatoire tutors, including Julian Seigel, Phil Robson and Jean Toussaint have appeared on the bill. Paul Dunmall also performs regularly in duo with Tony's son Miles.

Tony established his label Rare Music Records in 1994 to publish the music he has been involved with. Releases range from recent projects to archive live recordings from artists such as Tubby Hayes, Joe Harriot, Kenny Wheeler, Evan Parker, Paul Dumall, John Edwards, Dick Morrissey, Jim Mullen, Andy Sheppard, and Tony himself.

Tony is also a resident drum tutor and small band coach at Birmingham Conservatoire and judges the anual Tony Levin drum prize.
