The Yardbird Jazz Club is Cobweb Collective’s spiritual home and the venue of our flagship night.
The building has changed hands often over the past five years and some may remember it as the Grape Vine, the Bread and Roses or the Stage. Now completely renovated it has an exposed brick interior, wooden floors, a raised, extendable stage, full Bose P.A. and monitoring system, plush leather sofas and seated tables.
The venue supports live bands and DJs hosting regular scratch, funk jam, and open mic nights. Saturday night features an international headline act. Birmingham Jazz ran Sunday Sidewinder a series of Sunday afternoon gigs, featuring Sugarbeats, Summary, Chris Bowden and John Randall with DJ’s Chris Mapp and Sammy Goldburne.
Thursday nights are the Cobweb Collective’s jazz night. The night showcases an hour and a half set from national and international musicians, and support from upcoming Conservatoire bands. Music stars at half nine with and finishes with an open jam session. Entry is free.
As a city centre bar it is an unbeatable antidote to all Wetherspoon and Walkabout facsimiles that seem to fill every high street in the country. House rules are no dress code, no nasty bouncers and absolutely no pretension! The Yardbird is a young friendly and hip place right in the heart of the centre.
